PFLAG Westminster-Carroll County will discuss the issue of domestic violence at its general meeting on Sunday January 19 at 5 p.m.

Domestic violence in the LGBT community has become an emerging issue.  The CDC issued a report last year that showed the rates of gay domestic violence the same or greater than for heterosexuals. An article discussing those findings can be found here.

PFLAG2Liz Stoner will be the guest speaker on the subject of domestic violence and the LGBT community.  Ms. Stoner graduated cum laude from New York University this past May with a degree in Applied Psychology. During her time there, she studied a multitude of LGBT related subjects, including two-spiritedness, the effects of HIV on LGBT youth, the presence of LGBT literature in elementary schools, and depression in LGBT individuals and their siblings. Ms. Stoner previously worked at Harford County’s Sexual Assault/Spouse Abuse Resource Center as the Outreach Coordinator. Recently, she accepted a job as a Program Manager for Best Buddies Maryland. She is the daughter of PFLAG member Anne Stoner
