 What: PFLAG Westminster-Carroll County General Meeting
 When: May 20 at 5:00 p.m.
 Where: Fellowship Hall, St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, 17 Bond St. (at Corner of Green St.), Westminster, MD 21157
 Media Opportunities: PFLAG members
 Contact: June Horner, 410-795-2418, e-mail: junehorner@gmail.com,
The program will feature a panel presentation on marriage equality. Several couples—gay and straight—will participate and will discuss why marriage is important to them. A general discussion and Q & A session will follow. Information on the legal rights of married couples will be available as well.
On March 1, Governor Martin O’Malley signed into law the Civil Marriage Protection Act, which allows same-gender couples to legally marry in Maryland effective January 2013. The law also protects religious institutions from being forced to officiate ceremonies involving same-gender couples. Opponents of the law are currently gathering signatures to petition the measure to referendum. If that effort is successful, it will be put before the voters in November.
The chapter is also asking PFLAG members to BRING A FRIEND to the meeting who had never previously attended.

She did not understand transgender or gender identity until NPR educated her 11 years later. Today, she speaks and trains on transgender understanding and sensitivity. In her day job, Catherine is director of Online Services for the national nonprofit Enterprise Community Partners. Catherine also serves on the Public Advisory Board of Gender Rights Maryland. Contact her at cvhyde@gmail.com or 410.493.3443.

Hunter Thompson, Transgender Coordinator for Adults – Columbia-Howard Co. Chapter
So Hunter did not come to an understanding of himself until adulthood, after marrying and bearing three children. Since transitioning, Hunter has a full understanding of the special challenges adults have as the recast themselves in their true identity and navigate the challenges of society with a new name and gender marker. As such, Hunter offers a wealth of support and understanding for transgender adults in the area. Hunter presents on panels discussing the special challenges of trans people and transitioning in adulthood.
